Bulgaria’s Parliament to work only on bills related to the state of emergency26 March 2020 | 15:42 | FOCUS News Agency
The draft decision was signed by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Tsveta Karayancheva, the deputy chairman of the GERB Group, Krasimir Tsipov, the leader of Volya, Veselin Mareshki, MPs from the United Patriots, Yulian Angelov, and from the NPSB, Boris Yachev. 115 MPs voted in favour, 65 against, no abstentions.
During the state of emergency, the National Assembly will hold plenary sessions only on bills and draft acts related to the declared state of emergency. Parliamentary scrutiny during this period will be exercised only by written answers to questions.
The Constitution provides for an opportunity for the National Assembly to be convened by its president, at the request of one-fifth of the Members of Parliament, at the request of the President of the Republic, or at the request of the Council of Ministers.
The MPs decided that parliamentary committees will continue to hold sittings at this time, their access, though, could be restricted to outsiders.
