Yoana Hristova, Deputy Mayor of Sofia: As a result of an air quality improvement programme, the annual limit has been met14 January 2020 | 13:54 | FOCUS News Agency
The programme was officially launched in June, Hristova said. "The new programme is under Art. 27 on the law on ambient air quality for reducing the levels of harmful emissions and planning measures adequate to the local conditions, which will lead to the maintenance of certain norms,” the deputy mayor added.
"The expected result is the preparation of an Ambient Air Quality Programme in Sofia Municipality 2021-2026, in accordance with the current European and national legislation on air quality, which includes the main sources of air pollution. The programme will be consulted with all stakeholders – residents, businesses, NGOs, institutions and academia,” the deputy mayor added.
'Low emission zones are areas where vehicles of a certain category cannot enter or have emissions below a certain threshold. These may be areas that do not allow vehicles. This could be on days with high emissions or may be permanent,” Hristova noted.
