Vasil Vasilev, Bulgarian National Hunting and Fishing Association: Hunting tourism in Bulgaria is attractive to European countries, as well as the U.S., Canada, Australia2 December 2019 | 10:25 | FOCUS News Agency
In his words, the country is competing with a number of European countries in that field.
"There is an international interest in hunting tourism in Bulgaria, and not only in trophy hunting. Lately, the possibility of hunting predators in Bulgaria, which are rare in Europe, has been stirring up interest. Other foreign hunters take advantage of the opportunity to hunt small game like pheasant, grey partridge and waterfowl. We cannot say that the quality of the game is the only reason for foreign hunters to come to our country," he said.
Vasilev also explained that a lot of international hunters come to Bulgaria because the country is among the few allowing the hunt of wolves. Some years ago Bulgaria was known for its hunting trophies, especially the red deer, whose population is now recovering, he added.
He further said that the wild boar and the jackal are also of interest to hunters. In his words, increasingly fewer people can afford to spend 10 days for hunting for big trophies, which has increased the interest in more accessible species.
