Vice President Iliana Iotova: Double standards remain one of the major problems in the EU14 October 2019 | 15:18 | FOCUS News Agency
The focus of the conversation was the cooperation between Bulgaria and France in the field of education and science. The problem of inclusion of children from vulnerable groups in the educational system was discussed, as well as the disturbed balance between education and professional skills and labour market requirements. The French ambassador expressed readiness for implementation of joint projects with the Bulgarian state.
The meeting also discussed the future European Commission (EC). The commission should be made up of strong, courageous and responsible people, who could offer working solutions to the crises in Europe, Iliana Iotova stressed. "Unfortunately, the previous EC could do almost nothing about the migration issue, and today it has gained new importance," the vice president said.
She further said double standards are one of the main problems in the EU, pointing to the refusal to admit Bulgaria to the Schengen Area for political rather than technical reasons. "The manifestation of these double standards undermines the belief of our citizens in a united Europe, in common European values," said the vice president, stressing that Bulgaria has proved a loyal partner and guarantor of security in the Balkan region and of the entire European Union, being its outside border.
