Viktor Stanchev, CEZ Distribution Bulgaria: Over 6,600 cases of electricity theft last year10 October 2019 | 09:15 | FOCUS News Agency
In his words, this is a serious problem as in addition to the damage done to the company, the quality of the energy delivered to all other consumers is deteriorating. "The theft, which was discovered by our employees from the Pleven region, was I would say one of the largest in recent years, as the energy consumed illegally would be enough for about 1,000 households for a month. You understand the scale of this dishonest act. In addition to that theft, over the past year we have identified over 6,600 such violations – theft of electricity, but with the actions and methods we use, and the new technologies we are introducing, I think we can cope with and respond adequately to these challenges. Starting this year, we have introduced special devices that help us discover hidden connections to the power line. The results are positive, we consider it to be another tool to counter electricity theft," he explained, adding that electricity thefts amount to about BGN 5 million a year.
