The main trading partners of Bulgaria were Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece, France and Belgium, which accounted for 67.1% of exports to EU member states. In June 2019, exports to the EU decreased by 3.6% compared to the same month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 3,085.8 million.
In January - June 2019 in comparison to the corresponding period of the previous year the largest growth in the exports of Bulgaria to the EU distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification was recorded in the section ‘Mineral fuel, lubricants and related materials’ (95.9%). The most notable fall was recorded in the section ‘Animals and vegetable oils, fats and waxes’ (18.2%).
Bulgaria’s imports from the EU in the same period increased by 1.6% year-over-year and reached BGN 20, 102.0 million (at CIF prices). The largest volume of goods was imported from Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece and Spain.
In June 2019 Bulgaria's imports from the EU member states decreased by 4.8% year-over-year and amounted to BGN 3,272.5 million.
In January - June 2019 compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the largest growth in imports from the EU distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification was reported in the section ‘Beverages and tobacco’ (29.6%) while the most notable fall was observed in the section ‘Crude materials, inedible (except fuel)’ ( 31.7%).
The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (exports FOB - import CIF) with the EU for the same period was negative, amounting to BGN 1,072.4 million.
