Sofia. GERB Parliamentary Group has requested a hearing of the Chairman of the State Agency on National Security (SANS), Dimitar Georgiev, and Interior Minister Mladen Marinov over the ongoing Russian spy scandal, Focus News Agency reported.
"I make a procedural proposal that the chairman of SANS and the minister of interior be heard in Parliament in reference to yesterday's press briefing of the prosecutor's office," said GERB Group Chair Dr Daniela Daritkova, adding that the motion was tabled because of the great public interest in the events surrounding the spy scandal.
The opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party, for its part, agreed with the proposal but demanded that the prime minister should appear in Parliament, as well, as he is responsible for Bulgaria's national security. The session could be hold behind closed doors given the sensitivity of the matter, the socialists proposed.

Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov: Nikolay Malinov has been charged with money laundering and funding events that affect national security

Sofia. Bulgarian citizen Nikolay Malinov has been charged with organising a criminal scheme for money laundering and funding activities that affect Bulgaria’s national security, Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov told a press briefing, Focus News Agency reported.
In the course of a crime investigation, the law enforcers established a money laundering scheme. Further investigation by the State Agency for Natural Security found that this scheme was also used for transfer of funds from heads of foreign organisations with interests in the political life of the country and the activities of its public authorities. Events had been financed, which directly affected Bulgaria’s national security and attempted to exert influence also with regard to its foreign policy, the chief prosecutor told the briefing.
“The collected evidence revealed direct involvement of a Bulgarian citizen, both in the financing scheme and in the activities on Bulgarian territory, serving the above interests, including through disclosure of protected confidential information. That Bulgarian citizen was Nikolai Malinov. Today Nikolay Malinov has been charged for a crime under Art. 105, para. 1 of the Bulgarian Penal Code,” Tsatsarov said.
The Prosecutor's Office has set a bail at BGN 50,000. Malinov has now been released from custody and has been banned from leaving the country, the prosecutor general added.
