An illegal cigarette factory, causing losses to the state budget amounting to BGN 15 to 20 million a month, was raided yesterday, 4 July, in a joint operation by the Special Prosecutor's Office, the directorate against organised crime, the national security agency and the Customs Agency. Just a little earlier, another smaller factory was found in the village of Razhevo Konare. Eleven people are detained, another three are still sought for. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said the factory was opened a year ago, with an investment of about BGN 10 million. The workers, from Ukraine and Moldova, lived in an area set up for them inside the warehouses, without any communication to the outside world.
Initially, the cigarettes were exported to Greece.
