Plovdiv: A 60-tonne rock overhanging school16 May 2019 | 14:52 | FOCUS News Agency
The huge overhang of more than 20 cubic metres had split off the main rock of Bunardzhika. The mayor said the roots of an old fallen tree had rotten and freed up space, which then led to rocks breaking down and now overhanging the school buildings. The rock was immediately inspected, the work on securing the place is expected to be completed within 10 days, the mayor said. About 2 metres up the rock have already been trimmed, which makes it less likely to topple over and hit a building, Stamenov added.
Currently, there are no classes in the building over which the rock is hanging, the school principal has been notified that no children or staff will be allowed in until the safety work is done, to minimise the risk of accidents.
