With the start of the construction of a 400 kV internal power line between Maritsa East and Burgas, the Electricity System Operator will continue the implementation of the five projects of common European interest, which the company is carrying out under Regulation 347/2013 for the development of trans-European energy infrastructure.
The 150 km power line connects the Maritza East substation with Burgas substation. It is part of Bulgaria's internal 400-kV transmission network.
The line is part of a Bulgaria - Greece group of projects of common interest under Regulation 347/2013. The project is of key importance for the realisation of the North-South priority energy corridor and for the construction of the trans-European energy infrastructure.
The power line is systemically important for the Republic of Bulgaria and improves the operational safety of the transmission system.
For the implementation of the investments, funding from the Connecting Europe Facility was raised to the amount of BGN 60 million for the construction of the new 400 kV internal power line between Maritza East and Burgas.
The new 400 kV power line runs through the territory of eight municipalities: Galabovo, Topolovgrad, Tundzha, Elhovo, Straldzha, Karnobat, Kameno and Burgas.
