Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova: 20 new buses on route 1115 May 2019 | 14:20 | FOCUS News Agency
Twenty new articulated buses will start operating today in Sofia public transport system. They will run along route 11 – from Geo Milev to Ovcha Kupel quarters through the central city part, the mayor said. “The buses have all conveniences for the passengers - air-conditioning, phone chargers, free wifi, space for disabled persons and mothers with pushchairs. Everything a modern bus can offer," Fandakova said, adding that these 20 buses were part of a total of 60 articulated buses that Sofia Metro had bought under the bus replacement programme in Sofia. "We are now finishing the programme – these are the last 60 buses to replace 91% of the bus fleet by the middle of this year. This means that the average age of Sofia buses is 6 years - a European standard, no compromise. All new buses have the highest emission standard - Euro 6. And thanks to the programme, we have managed to reduce harmful emissions of public transport buses by two and a half times," the mayor explained. She further said that the municipality will continue to work in this direction – both in terms of auto transport and electric transport. "We expect the first of the 13 new trams to arrive in July, and by autumn another 15 electric buses. I have also ordered a procedure for 25 new trams, I hope we can also receive European funding for them," she said. The next 20 buses will be launched by the end of May on route 280, said the mayor.
