Part of the political parties in Bulgaria refuse to enter the campaign for the elections to the European Parliament, political scientist Prof. Antony Galabov said in an interview in Focus Radio
’s morning block. He sees a deficit of meaningful political debate before the upcoming election. According to him, Bulgarian politicians are unable to talk about Europe. The course BSP has opted for is radical opposition, so right until the election, and perhaps afterwards, one can expect confrontation on every topic, he said. In his opinion, BSP wants a campaign full of domestic scandals in order to avoid campaigning for the European election. “We are already in the final phase of the pre-campaign and we see very few parties trying to talk about the European agenda, about Bulgaria’s prospects in the new EU situation. Even more so when these are the most important elections in the EU for the last 20 years, according to all observers. It is absolutely incomprehensible that Bulgarian politicians are unable to talk about Europe. This is an upsetting finding after more than 10 years of active participation in the European process,” the analyst said. He further said that the most important topic was how Bulgaria could achieve its goals within the EU and in what direction united Europe should develop, but there was no such debate in Bulgaria.
