The Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Belgrade has been officially notified of the change introduced by a decision of the Serbian Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government of 25 December 2018. The document provides instructions to all municipal and city administrations in Serbia on how to practically apply the Bulgarian language rules concerning female surnames.
In addition, Minister Branko Ruzic has accepted the proposal of Bulgarian Ambassador Radko Vlaykov that Serbia should conduct an awareness campaign among the Bulgarian minority, promoting the possibility to use the Bulgarian language rules not only in terms of names of newborn babies but also concerning a change of existing female surnames.
