Sofia. The state, the municipalities and every citizen should join efforts to be able to tackle the problem with particulate matter, said Dr. Vladimir Hodzhev, chair of the Bulgarian Society of Pulmonary Diseases, in
Focus Radio’s morning broadcast. People can lower the harmful impact of particulate matter on heath if they use public transport, spend less time outdoors, avoid heavy physical work and protect their faces in days of high level of particulate matter in the air. “The people at risk are those with respiratory and concomitant cardiovascular diseases, the children with a functionally incomplete respiratory system who spend a lot of time outdoors, and elderly people with undiagnosed illnesses,” explained Dr. Hodzhev. He recommends eating more fruits and vegetables for vitamins and antioxidants.
