The Jerusalem Post: A second terrorist tunnel was found leading into Israel from Lebanon6 December 2018 | 18:05 | FOCUS News Agency
An IDF commander demanded that UNIFIL neutralize the tunnels on the Lebanon border.
"The tunnel from Ramia that crosses into Israel, does not constitute an immediate threat," IDF Spokesperson's Unit said.
The IDF, however, did protest against the violation of Israeli sovereignty by Hezbollah.
On Tuesday, the IDF launched Operation Northern Shield, an effort to expose and neutralize cross-border attack tunnels that would endanger Israeli soldiers and civilians.
While Israeli defense officials have repeatedly denied the existence of cross-border Hezbollah tunnels – despite residents of northern Israel warning of digging sounds underground – the military admitted that it has been aware of Hezbollah efforts to build attack tunnels stretching into Israel at several points along the border since after the Second Lebanon War in 2006.
The United Nations peace keeping force UNIFIL announced Thursday that it sent a special team to Israel on Thursday to inspect the situation on the northern border, after UN and European Union officials denounced the Hezbollah attack tunnels into Israel.
“The building of tunnels from one country to another for military purposes is wholly unacceptable,” Stephen Dujarric, the spokesperson for UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres told reporters in New York on Wednesday.
