Hurricane Florence: Path of massive Category 2 storm reaches Carolina coast bringing fierce wind, rain and flooding14 September 2018 | 05:04 | FOCUS News Agency
Currently less than 100 miles from Wilmington, North Carolina, the “meandering” Florence has been described as a “horrific nightmare storm” because meteorologists cannot pinpoint where it will strike. Tropical storm-level winds and rain are already beginning to hit the Carolinas.
And despite slower winds the devastating effects of predicted massive rainfall have not changed, according to the National Hurricane Centre (NHC), which warned of “catastrophic flash flooding” from up to 40 inches of rain. Rivers are expected to burst their banks.
Some 1.7 million people have been ordered to evacuate from North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Georgia, where governor Nathan Deal has now declared an emergency, is also thought to be in the firing line.
