Krasimir Uzunov, Focus Agency: Greece’ agreement with Macedonia is much better than ours14 June 2018 | 13:52 | FOCUS News Agency
The latest agreement between the two states on the name Republic of Northern Macedonia consists of 20 pages and is not recommendatory, “Bulgaria’s declaration that was started in 1999 and revised in 2017 is only recommendatory. With Greece, it is a contract for protecting specific interests and specific things,” Uzunov commented.
In his words, Greece’ protection against territorial claims is much better than Bulgaria’s. “Bulgaria agrees with enthusiasm to every proposal made, whether Ilinden Macedonia or Northern Macedonia, which is, unfortunately, due to lack of expertise.”
“Last night Molotov cocktails were thrown at [Macedonia’s] parliament, there were 1,500 protesters, with Vardar football fans, that is, the pressure groups – to me, the pressure cooker is only just beginning to heat up. I don’t know what the outcome would be, I am rather pessimistic,” he said. In his words, the fact that only 61 members of parliament, a simple majority, could change the name of a country sets a dangerous precedent.
