Ognian Zlatev, EC Representation in Bulgaria: EU and Western Balkan leaders realise that without joint effort the European perspective will be indefinitely put off16 May 2018 | 10:05 | FOCUS News Agency
“The EU leaders and those of the countries in the region realise that without joint effort, the European perspective will be put off for an indefinite time,” Zlatev commented.
He said the summit in Sofia was a historic opportunity to take advantage of.
“The Bulgarian government has made efforts to convince the leaders of the EU member states as to why it is important to include the Western Balkans’ European future on the agenda right now and thank God the European leaders have shown understanding that this can be done,” Ognian Zlatev added.

Prof. Anton Parvanov: Western Balkan leaders come to Sofia with realism and pragmatism – they have no overambitious tasks but will set out problems16 May 2018 | 13:18 | FOCUS News Agency
Sofia. The leaders of the Western Balkan countries are coming to Sofia with realism and pragmatism, Prof. Anton Parvanov, who teaches Balkan foreign policy at the University of National and World Economy, said in an interview with Focus News Agency about the EU-Western Balkans summit on May 17. “They have no overambitious tasks, but at the same time they will not miss the occasion to bring up their countries’ problems during the summit,” he said, adding that most Western Balkan leaders were experienced politicians. He said that expectations for more specific timeframes for the Western Balkan countries’ integration into the EU as well as for real support for them were realistic.Open in new tab
