Krasimir Uzunov: If Serbia and Montenegro want to join the EU, they should not have problems with neighbouring countries17 April 2018 | 14:13 | FOCUS News Agency
“In order to join the EU, Serbia must solve its problems with its neighbouring countries, and the same goes for Montenegro,” Uzunov said, singling out the ratification of the border agreement between Kosovo and Montenegro, and the recognition of Kosovo by Serbia. According to him, the meeting in Sofia will be only one stop on the long journey towards peace in the Balkans. “Aleksandar Vučić and Hashim Thaçi can sit at the same table, they have already done so in Brussels, but the question is whether Spain will come, whether the countries that have not recognised Kosovo will come,” Uzunov commented.
“Bulgaria’s efforts to bring the issue of the Western Balkans to the forefront of Europe’s and world’s attention have been successful, and that, I believe, deserves recognition, as since the wars in southern Yugoslavia no one has talked about the Balkans. But of course there are many factors that are beyond our control. Unfortunately, things in the Balkans cannot develop as fast as we want, one, two, three presidencies won’t be enough to achieve integration,” he noted.
