Poll: 58% of Bulgarians who heard about Istanbul Convention are against its ratification

Sofia. There is broad public disapproval towards the Istanbul Convention, while other topical issues such as the checks by institutions in different sectors find support, according to new surveys by local polling agency Gallup International, not related to Gallup Inc. As much as 86% of the respondents have heard about the Istanbul Convention. Of those, 58% are against its ratification by Bulgaria, while 19% support a potential ratification. The negative attitude prevails in all social groups, with some exception for the GERB supporters, a third of which accept the convention, while two-fifths reject it. Although the public may not be very familiar with the issue, it is important to check what image has been created, and the general image of the convention is obviously negative among Bulgarians, the agency said.
As for the topics from recent days, there is strong support for the checks concerning property, mayors and the railways, among others. 78% agree that it is never late to check someone’s wealth, while 20% think it is too late.
