Sofia. A member or activist of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) wrote a tip to the prosecutor’s office against another BSP member or activist in Shumen, Minister of Interior Valentin Radev said at a briefing in response to BSP’s request to the chief prosecutor, FOCUS News Agency reported. According to Radev, the one who gave the tip warned that the other one might have lied that he is not a BSP member when applying for expert at the new anti-corruption agency. The law forbids the appointment of people who have been party members or performed political activity as officials or experts at the agency, the minister said. The prosecutors ordered the regional police department to check the case, which is being done by the economic police. After that, the information will be sent to the prosecutor’s office.Open in new tab

Sofia. The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) asked Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov to check if recent actions by the regional prosecutor’s office in Shumen were politically directed, FOCUS News Agency reported. According to BSP leader Kornelia Ninova, the prosecutors in Shumen ordered the regional economic police department to request lists of participants in BSP meetings and party members. This happened after a state official, member of BSP, was fired although he was not a member of the party management, Ninova explained. “In recent years there has been pressure and repression on citizens, blackmail and pressure on small and medium-sized businesses, on dissenters. If you say anything against those in power, the entire state apparatus mobilises against you, you get fired from work, they send you the tax authority, the customs,” Kornelia Ninova said.Open in new tab
