Kancho Stoychev, sociologist: Bulgarian society clearly shows that it is against the Istanbul Convention14 February 2018 | 15:28 | FOCUS News Agency
Sofia. The Bulgarian society clearly shows that it is against the Istanbul Convention, sociologist Kancho Stoychev told FOCUS Radio this morning in regard to the latest surveys by his polling agency Gallup International, not related to Gallup Inc. “The registered nearly 60% of people who are against (the ratification of the convention) means a great majority, a sanctioning force of public opinion, and it shows that any politician or politicians who try to forcefully impose this convention in its current version will leave the political stage very quickly,” the sociologist said. According to Kancho Stoychev, Bulgarians are not against the entire document but against “three-four phrases imposed in an underhanded and unfair way in this document.” He forecast that the issue with the ratification will remain at a standstill, otherwise the convention may become a threat to the government.Open in new tab
