The Moroccan detained for terrorism at the request of the Moroccan authorities was involved in the senior structures of Islamic State, Rumyana Arnaudova, Spokesperson of Bulgarian Prosecutor General, told BNT
. The detainee entered Bulgaria from Turkey on January 13 as part of a group of 27 foreigners, including 6 men, 6 women and children. They were detained and sent to the centre in Harmanli. All others except the Moroccan in custody immediately applied for humanitarian status. The man carried forged identity papers, including a Syrian passport sought through Interpol. A detention order was issued when it was confirmed that he was sought by the Moroccan authorities. According to the order, he is wanted for creating a group and preparation of terrorist activities, possession of illegal firearms as part of a project against Morocco’s national security and public order, recruitment for a terrorist organisation, receiving training and fundraising. “On February 5 and 6 this year, two co-workers of the detainee were questioned in court in Riyadh and confirmed that he was a loyal participant in Islamic state, in its senior structures,” Rumyana Arnaudova said. Yesterday the Bulgarian court ordered his detention for up to 90 days, in which period the Prosecutor’s Office expects an official request to hand him over to Morocco.
