Sofia. The Special Criminal Court of Appeal in Sofia has decided that Septemvri Mayor Marin Rachev will not be removed from office, a spokesperson for the court told FOCUS News Agency. The mayor appealed against his removal from office by a court of lower instance.

Pazardzhik. With a decision on Friday, the Special Criminal Court in Sofia revised the bail imposed by the Prosecutor’s Office on Septemvri Mayor Marin Rachev, FOCUS Radio - Pazardzhik reports. The amount was reduced from BGN 250,000 to BGN 130,000. The court confirmed the bail for Septemvri municipal official Stanoy Milov at BGN 10,000.

Sofia. The Special Prosecutor’s Office has asked the court to remove from office Septemvri Mayor Marin Rachev and local municipal official Stanoy Milov, the Special Appellate Prosecutor's Office said.
The request will be considered in an open court hearing today.

Septemvri. On behalf of the Special Prosecutor's Office and the management of the Prosecutor's Office, I can say that a list of municipalities has been prepared, about which there have been tips for abuses, Rumyana Arnaudova, Spokesperson of the Prosecutor General, told a press conference in front of Septemvri Municipality, FOCUS Radio - Pazardzhik reported. She declared that a single approach will be applied in regard to this list and promised to reporters to meet again soon in another city. “In all cases where evidence is found that a mayor, in his official capacity, might hinder the investigation or influence witnesses, the Special Prosecutor’s Office will proceed in an identical manner and request the mayor’s removal from office. I can assure you that another city will soon follow suit,” Arnaudova said.

Septemvri. Mayor of Septemvri Marin Rachev will be charged with 2 counts, Spokesperson of the Prosecutor General Rumyana Arnaudova told a press conference, FOCUS Radio – Pazardzhik reported.
The first charge is mismanagement under Art. 219, para. 3 of the Penal Code for 7 public procurement deals concluded from March 2016 to March 2017. The mayor is accused of not exercising sufficient control over the contractor, the construction works were done poorly or incompletely by a company owned by a mayor’s relative. The second charge is for an unprofitable deal concluded in March 2017, when the mayor bought a property at a price exceeding its true market value by BGN 100,000, Prosecutor Arnaudova said, adding that tomorrow the Special Prosecutor's Office will press charges against Mayor Rachev.

Rumyana Arnaudova: The Special Prosecutor’s Office is carrying out an anti-corruption operation in Septemvri

Sofia. At the moment, the Special Prosecutor’s Office is carrying out a special anti-corruption operation in the Municipality of Septemvri as part of a pre-trial investigation, Spokesperson for the Prosecutor-General Rumyana Arnaudova told FOCUS News Agency. Search warrants authorised by the Special Criminal Court are being executed by over 50 masked police officers at the premises of the Municipality of Septemvri, and in private homes and offices of commercial companies.
These are the first pre-trial proceedings initiated by the Special Prosecutor's Office against a mayor in a corruption probe after the amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure adopted in November, which allowed the Special Prosecutor's Office to investigate such cases.
Mayor Marin Rachev was taken for interrogation. He said he was not arrested in the morning, but was in his office to cooperate with the investigators. He said he believed in justice and that the truth would be revealed.
