PM Boyko Borisov: We never promised to raise police salaries, but these guys are important to the country

Sofia. The government will allocate BGN 100 million for salaries of police officers but “in exchange for results,” Prime Minister Boyko Borisov stressed today at his meeting with the seven trade union organisations with the Ministry of the Interior, the government press office said.
The amount is for the period from 1 January to 31 December 2018 and if the tax revenue is good, police salaries may be raised by 10% as of 2019, the prime minister explained.
“During election campaigns, political parties make promises and decide on their priorities. Our priorities were education, infrastructure, health, we never promised to raise police salaries, but these guys are important to Bulgaria, they have to be motivated, to understand that what they do is under public scrutiny,” the prime minister said.
Borisov is not against the police protest scheduled for today but these additional funds are not part of a deal to stop it, he commented.
