The World Bank is ready to finance a trade and transport project in the Western Balkan region, CEO Kristalina Georgieva said at a forum of the Bulgarian government and the World Bank on regional integration on the Balkans, FOCUS News Agency
reports. “We in particular are ready to finance a project for trade and transport that will help the countries in the region to remove the current obstacles. Probably in the amount of USD 150 million to USD 200 million,” Kristalina Georgieva said. The goal is to speed up and thus increase cross-border trade through higher-quality infrastructure and intelligent technology on the borders.
She noted that the task at today’s meeting was to seriously consider transport links as well as the potential of the IT sector in this region.
The European perspective and connectivity of the Western Balkans is among the priorities for Bulgaria’s EU Council presidency in the first half of 2018.
