Sofia. The Bulgarian minority in Serbia has been seen as a threat to the state for a century, Ivan Nikolov, head of the Cultural and Information Center in Bosilegrad, told a press conference on the arrest of three Bulgarian doctors in Bosilegrad during a humanitarian operation, FOCUS News Agency reports. According to Nikolov, no matter what actions Serbia or MEPs might take, Bulgaria should constantly monitor the situation with the Bulgarians living there.
“The arrest of the Bulgarian doctors was the last straw, there are tons of other problems. In the 21st century, young people are dying for lack of access to basic healthcare,” Nikolov said.
"Serbia does not have a clear foreign policy orientation, it is caught between Brussels and Moscow. Laws in a society should defend people’s right to healthcare, mother tongue training, freedom of speech, movement and thought,” Nikolov said, urging the Bulgarian state and Bulgarian politicians to step up to the plate.
