Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva: Bulgarian government stands behind friendly Spain13 October 2017 | 13:17 | FOCUS News Agency
“There is increased regional co-operation in Spain and it is a federation, but still, the constitutional order is undermined. The referendum was illegal and no country could gain independence through an illegal referendum," she said. “Spanish constitution allows the central government to revoke some regional rights and impose direct rule over the region. If Catalonia nevertheless decides to declare independence, they must realise that neither will they be EU members, nor will any country recognise them, and this is dangerous for democracy,” Minister Zaharieva commented, adding that people in Catalonia were used for internal political purposes. “Not only is Spain divided, Catalonia, too, has lost a lot in economic terms. Political leaders should not push towards separation,” she said.
