Parliament adopts at first reading amendments to Local Taxes and Fees Act introducing "polluter pays principle”13 September 2017 | 14:13 | FOCUS News Agency
The amendments were supported by 112 votes in favor, 38 against and 33 abstentions. The “polluter pays principle” is a financial incentive both for people to reduce the amount of waste they generate and for the municipalities to optimise the costs of collection, transport and treatment of waste. It is proposed that the basis for determining the amount of disposal fee be the amount of waste produced by a household. The amendments are to take effect from 1 January 2019.
