The party could plan the ballot for November 11, 2018, the 100th anniversary of Polish independence following WWI. The party's local structures will support the referendum drive, accoprding to a participant in a meeting between party national and regional leadership.
PiS is hoping to take control over regional assemblies in the election; they control only one of sixteen today.
However, Poles find President lacking in independence and are unconvinced by his proposal to hold a referendum on constitutional change, a survey carried out on May 11-12 by IBRiS pollster for the daily Rzeczpospolita showed. Some 46% of the surveyed think the President is not fulfilling his election campaign vows, while 44% are of the opposite opinion. Duda's performance as head of Polish armed forces is negatively assessed by 55% of the surveyed. The referendum initiative is viewed negatively by 50% of Poles.
